Castleton Tower, Castle Valley, Utah

Just outside of Moab is a hidden treasure.  After our discovery I read reviews that indicate other people felt the same as we did.  Someone wrote a “hidden oasis”.  We were in Moab before the biking scene started for the season, but this still felt remote and secret. A quiet, fertile valley protected by red rock towers and La Sal Mountains.

Number of people: Nobody on the trail.  Saw two cars on the La Sal loop and one road biker.

Trail Head:  Off of highway 128 north out of Moab.  Take the La Sal loop until you see Castleton Tower and then you will also see a trail climbing the hillside.  Park in a cut-out and make your way up the narrow hillside trail. You can follow the trail back or return on the 4 wheel trail beneath Castleton Rock.
